I have a general independent practice and work with clients 12 years old and up. I work with children, adolescents, and adults in an individual and/or family format. I also do extensive work with couples and specialize in the treatment of relationship challenges. Rather than following a single approach to counseling, I use an integrated approach which enables me to use the most effective research based techniques and interventions available that best match a particular client's presenting problems/issues, characteristics, preferences, needs, and goals for treatment.
I am licensed by Arizona as an licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), which allows me to have an independent counseling/psychotherapy practice. In addition, I am a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), a national certification sponsored by the National Association of Social Workers. I work with a variety of presenting challenges that affect individuals, families, groups, and relationships.
I hold a Master's of Social Work (MSW) degree from ASU and have been providing counseling services since 1989. I also have a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Chicago and an undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in accounting. I worked in private business and as a CPA prior to moving to Arizona from Chicago in 1987. I also completed the sign language Interpreter Training Program for the Deaf at Phoenix College, am fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), and work with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. I have completed training in the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for use with PTSD, anxiety, and mood disorders. I am a former adjunct faculty member at Ottawa University (1997-2004) and have taught graduate and undergraduate courses in counseling, psychology, communication, and business (Theory and Techniques in Marriage and Family Counseling, Counseling Theories and Dynamics, Psychology of Abnormal Behavior, Developmental Psychology, Theories of Personality, Research Design & Analysis, Behavior in Organizations, Interpersonal Communication, Business Communication, Financial Administration, Counseling in the Helping Professions). I also provide corporate consulting, training, and co-lead personal growth retreats.
